Ruth E. Vance (nee Phillips)
85, of Lockport, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 with her devoted family by her side. Born January 11, 1928 in Mahan, WV moving to Lockport in 1959. Family was very important to Ruth. She was a loving and caring Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Ruth also enjoyed playing Bingo and had many friends to thank for their help. Survived by her daughters, Shirley (Nick) Shoemaker of Lockport, Debra (Dean) Gifford of Blackstone, IL, Libby (the late Richard) Gagan of Orland Park, Karen (Bob) Warren of Lockport: sons, Eddie (Marguerite) of Lockport, Leslie "Pete" (Grace) of Wilmington, Tom (Cheryl) of Lockport, Shirl W. Jr. (the late Cynde) of Lockport; 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leon (Donna) Phillips of Lockport and Robert Phillips of Cleveland, OH; two sisters, Susie Canterberry and Maggie (Charles) Dixon both of Oak Hill, WV; two sisters-in-law, Jackie Grepares of Joliet and Freda (Bud) Martin of North Park,FL; many nieces and nephews and Grandma to many foster children. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Shirl W. Vance (1983); a son, Donald Vance of Lexington, KY (2010), her parents, Troy and Ruby (nee Willis) Phillips; 5 siblings of West Virginia, and in-laws James and Sylvia Smith of Plainfield. Family will receive friends at Goodale Memorial Chapel 912 S. Hamilton St., Lockport, IL 60441 on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 10:00AM until time of Funeral Service at 1:00PM. Interment Lockport City Cemetery.
