Love Emblem

Richard Tere Miller, age 63, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 17, 2018. He was born on August 23, 1954 in New Jersey to Richard and Margaret Miller. Richard was a tender, loving husband to his wife Maria. Richard was warmly referred to as "Tere" by his friends and coworkers. He was a hardworking, dedicated social worker at Summit Learning Center, CHSD 218, for 23 years, where he took pride in his record of perfect attendance. Richard attended the University of Illinois where he earned his Master of Social Work and became a loyal fan of the Illini. After graduating from the University of Illinois, Richard met the love of his life, Maria Munoz, and they were married on July 31, 1998 in Skokie, IL. Richard and Maria enjoyed many activities together over their 20 years of marriage. Richard enjoyed medieval history and was interested in all things medieval. Richard admired gargoyles for their beauty, and what they symbolized in stone; the need for constant vigilance. Richard and Maria traveled the country following the Renaissance Fair with ornate costumes and were often mistaken as part of the cast. Richard also enjoyed the couple's yearly Christmas tradition of going to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra perform. Richard was a lover of nature and took great pride in his gardening. His flower displays were admired by his neighbors, friends, and family for their extravagance and beauty. Richard enjoyed his flowers while sitting on his back-patio grilling, bird watching, and guarding the prized plants from his archenemy, "the rabbit." Richard enjoyed watching football and baseball. Richard, a man fond of winning arguments, favorite teams just so happened to be the Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees. He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Maria. His sister Alison (Bill) Swarens; children, Richard and Rachel. His sister Shelley (Jeff) Chase; children Hallie and Nathan. Sister in Law Lucy (Manuel) Sanchez; children, Michelle Sanchez, Jill, Jason and Jacqueline Dreyer, Andrew and Mia Sanchez. Sister in Law Emma Navarro; children Cynthia, Adrian, and Abble Navarro. Family will receive friends Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd, New Lenox, IL 60451 on Saturday, April 28 from 1:00pm until time of Memorial Service at 5:00pm. "Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen" (Psalm 77:19,NIV).
